South African Boerboel Training

We are South African Boerboel dog training experts, working with puppies from twelve weeks of age.

The South African Boerboel is a large, muscular breed of dog that originates from South Africa. They were originally bred for the purpose of guarding farms and protecting their owners from dangerous animals, such as lions and hyenas.

Boerboels are known for their loyalty and protective nature and are often used as guard dogs or family pets. They are intelligent and trainable but can be stubborn at times and require a firm, consistent training approach.

Due to their large size and strength, Boerboels require regular exercise and socialisation to prevent behavioural issues. They also have a relatively short lifespan compared to some other breeds, typically living between 9 and 12 years.

It is important to note that Boerboels are a strong and powerful breed and may not be suitable for everyone. Potential owners should carefully research the breed and consult with a reputable breeder or veterinarian before bringing one into their home.

Boerboel training and socialisation are crucial from an early age to bring the best out of this breed. This breed requires a dominant owner who is a pack leader.

Training options include:

  • Basic Obedience

  • Intermediate/advanced obedience

  • Person protection training

  • Executive protection training

Training for Boerboels

Our expert training starts with basic obedience, ensuring your Boerboel puppy responds correctly to “sit”, “stay”, “down”, recall and food refusal. We’ll also socialise your dog and introduce them to busy public places to prevent unwanted aggression and shyness. Once your dog has mastered the obedience course, we’ll move on to specialist South African Boerboel training, such as protection or service training.

Boerboels are eager to please their human companions and they respond very well to positive reinforcement. This breed is must have a dominant owner who can achieve pack leader status. It is advisable to undertake expert training as soon as possible to prevent bad behaviours from forming as habits.
