We are Great Dane Training specialists, working with all breeds of dog from twelve weeks old. Great Danes, often referred to as "gentle giants," are one of the largest dog breeds, known for their towering height, graceful presence, and calm demeanour. Despite their size, they are affectionate, loyal, and often enjoy being close to their human companions, earning them the nickname "lapdogs" – even if they don’t quite fit in your lap!
Due to their size, Great Danes can present some challenges when it comes to training, housing, and health. They need plenty of space to move around and strong, consistent leadership in their training. Common behavioural issues, such as pulling on the leash or jumping, are more significant when dealing with a dog this size, making proper training essential.
With proper care, training, and attention, Great Danes make wonderful, gentle companions for any home.
Training options include:
Basic Obedience
Intermediate/advanced obedience
Behavioural training
Puppy Training
It's best to start training your Great Dane as early as 8 weeks old for basic commands and socialization. However, we offer training for dogs of all ages.
Their size also makes them prone to certain health issues like hip dysplasia and bloat (gastric torsion), so regular veterinary care and proper feeding routines are crucial.
The duration depends on your dog’s individual needs, but most dogs see significant improvement within a few weeks of consistent training.
This breed is moderately active and incredibly confident, which is why many people choose Great Danes for family companionship and protection. Known for their gentle nature and loyalty, Great Danes are eager to learn, eager to please, and thrive when given a purpose. Their natural protective instincts make them an ideal fit for roles that require calm but vigilant guardianship.
We begin training with foundational obedience commands such as “sit,” “stay,” “down,” recall, and food refusal. Once your Great Dane has mastered these essential commands, we progress to more advanced, specialized training to prepare them for their future responsibilities. Early socialization is critical to prevent unwanted shyness or over-protectiveness when interacting in public. Despite their size and strength, it's important to channel their energy properly, ensuring they remain gentle giants.
